The Games 2017 are coming.

The Games '17 are coming.

If you are a real CrossFit geek (we are) then this week is kind of like our Christmas and Birthday rolled into one. Soon we get to watch the best of the best make light work of weights and times us mere mortals can only dream of.

This is the week we get to watch 'our' Rockstars in all their glory on their stage at the pinnacle of 12 months brutal training.

Whether its Fraser, Sara, Briggs, the legend which is Bridges or Team JST there are a million different reasons to tune in and get on the edge of your seat. So get ready to be inspired and harness some motivation to get you flying through your next few months of training.

So What's New?
After 10 years in California, the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games has now moved to Madison, Wisconsin (kind of to the top and right a bit). The reason for the move is to allow having everything CrossFit needs (aquatic venues, plenty of trails, and a multi-purpose sports venue) all in one compact, easily  walkable city unlike in California where the athletes had to be shuttled between venues for events.

Also the Weather will be more tolerable (no more stretchers post Murph) and the city has the infrastructure (bars) to contain ~33K fans.

There will be an obstacle course ... moving on.
There will be a cyclocross event ... again ... moving on.

In all seriousness though - the Jury is out on these type of events at the Games. Some people love it and some people (purists) believe that yes trying new sports is part of the CrossFit ethos but to have the best of the best struggling with a new discipline in front of it's biggest audience maybe isn't the greatest way of showcasing these athletes. I guess we will know more after the weekend but in context - last years Trail Run and previous swim events have been awesome.

How to watch:

First things first - YouTube has gone. Youtube was a class platform for watching the Games and the Jury is out as to how good the coverage can be via Facebook.

You can watch the entirety of the individual, team, masters and teen competitions live on the CrossFit Games website / Facebook and CBS Sports Digital will stream up to 40 hours of live event coverage of teams and individuals on and the CBS Sports app.

The CrossFit website says "CrossFit will use Facebook update groups to let people know when events are live, so be sure to join and set your notifications so you don't miss the best action. Known events and times will be scheduled in advance, and the Studio team will be breaking live announcements as they happen on site. For full schedule information,  download the CrossFit Games app or visit".

What we know so far:

Run Swim Run Event.
Run 1.5 miles, Swim 500 meters, Run 1.5 miles

Followed by a Bike Event (cyclocross)

Sprint o'course - Obstacle course race

1 Rep Max Snatch Heat.

followed by

Triple-G Chipper

100 pull-ups
80 GHD sit-ups
60 one-legged squats, alternating
40-cal. row
20 dumbbell push presses.

The only thing we know about Saturday and Sunday so far is that there will be a Muscle Up / Clean event on the Sunday.

So that is it as far as a bit of a low-down of the week's proceedings go. We can't wait to watch it whether it be sneaking it in via a headphone at work or watching on the bed after the post WOD shower. It is going to be amazing to watch these guys in action no matter what.

And on a side note, on our Metal Collective Podium Prediction Giveaway 100% of you have picked Fraser who has like a serious girlfriend now? Is it possible he could have gone soft spending time on the sofa with the Ben & Jerry's (we've all been there right?) or our we about to witness Beast Mode v3.0. No one can see another male victor right now - but we all love an underdog right? Bring it on.
